Growing up, I was surrounded by tulip paintings that my wonderfully talented mother painted. Tulips were her favorite, and she even carried around a few stems of plastic orange tulips that passed for the real thing in many a painting! I find tulips to be just as enticing to paint as did my mom and, for this painting, I set up a still life in my garden bed, with REAL orange tulips growing in it, and added blue and white pottery which my mom also loved, and then I added tulips picked from my other garden beds. Somewhere out there my mom is loving this painting and still being my best cheerleader!
